My name is Monica Carvalho, I’m a Swiss-born photographer passionate about looking at the familiar with a new perspective. From a young age, I developed a fascination for the arts with special focus on photography and illusionism. In my subsequent art studies, I was captivated by the work of the Surrealists and the possibilities that photography offered for playing around. The turning point was when I discovered Adobe Photoshop, which allowed me to merge my photos with my imagination.

Since then, my motto has been to "make the ordinary extraordinary". Daily life can be so familiar that we tend to not perceive things past their function. My work aims to offers a new way of seeing by elevating the meaning of everyday things. I believe there is potential for inspiration everywhere, it just depends on our outlook.

The most significant aspect of my work is that I exclusively use photos taken by myself (no stock images). This challenge makes my artistic adventures not only very exciting but also incredibly personal, as I share an intimate connection with each element in my photomontages: I know the models, touched the buildings, stroked the animals, ate the foods, played the instruments...
